WHAT ARE SKEEDS & DECORATIVE FLAKES?

Decorative flakes (also known as skeeds, chips or aggregates) are small coloured vinyl flakes broadcast into a wet epoxy or polyurethane base coat. They are then sealed with a clear topcoat to create a tough, textured, easy-to-clean floor finish.

Flake solutions combine a decorative, colourful finish with improved slip resistance, helping to disguise dust, wear and imperfections while protecting the floor for years under traffic.

A PROVEN STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

HOW A DECORATIVE FLAKE FLOOR IS APPLIED

A durable decorative flake floor always starts with correct preparation. This simple four-stage solution builds the right primer, base and clear coat layers for a strong, seamless, easy-to-clean floor.

STEP 1

SURFACE PREPARATION

Grind, clean and degrease the concrete. Remove contamination, repair damage and profile the surface so the system bonds correctly.

STEP 2

PRIMING & BASE COAT

Apply the correct ARVEAN floor primer and coloured base coat to seal the substrate and provide the background for the flakes.

STEP 3

BROADCAST THE FLAKES

Broadcast the decorative flakes evenly into the wet base coat to your chosen density, then allow to cure before sealing.

STEP 4

SEAL WITH CLEAR COAT

Apply clear coats over the cured flakes to seal, protect and produce your chosen sheen, then allow full cure before use.
